Question by Naomi:

How come on the sims 2 my families keep disappearing?

I made two families and both of them were in the families bin but after I went into a house and came back to the neighbourhood, the families had completely disappeared and according to SimPE, there is no data on them so it's like they never existed. Plus when I move a sim or several out of a house they go but never turn up in the families bin.
Can anyone help?

Thanks In Advance!!

This answer is from Max http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071011234327AAs1EbZ who is an authority on Sims 2 and is the most sensible information I could find on this issue:"It sounds like the game has reset. Did you remove/delete your EA Games folder from My Documents during the period you weren't playing? If you did you deleted your saved games. Can you tell if any other changes you made to the neighbourhood/other lots has also been undone?

You reset the game by removing the neighbourhoods folder from

My Documents\\EA Games\\The Sims 2\\Neighbourhoods

when you do this, the game recopies the neighbourhood files from its back up and you get the Maxis neighbourhoods back again as they were when you first loaded the game. That's what I think has happened. It's not a glitch - that's what is meant to happen.

I don't use Maxis neighbourhoods myself so I make backups which I can replace in the game should I need to. Making backups of your neighbourhoods - including the Maxis ones - is a good idea if you want to be able to resurrect a neighbourhood. The game is prone to bugs and this sort of things happens. Having said that I've never used a backup and have been playing the same neighbourhood since the game was released 4 years ago."

I'll dig around and see if I can find anything else on the net relating to this issue.

Edit: Okay, found some threads about this problem relating to macs and file limits, but obviously you don't have a mac or you would not be able to use SimPE.

Did you ever put occupied houses in the Sim bin prior to having this problem? Had you ever moved sims/houses between neighborhoods? Because aside from using the boolprop testing cheats willy-nilly, moving Sims in this way is the number 1 way I know of to cause game corruption.

There is also a thread here http://linna.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=180053&c=1&ht=&page=1&pp=25#startcomments re disappearing neighbourhoods, but many of the posters report disappearing Sims as well.
